ABOUT US

Healing on your own terms

Healing shouldn’t mean squeezing yourself into someone else’s idea of “acceptable.” Maybe therapy didn’t work for you before — maybe your story felt too complicated, your feelings too intense, or you just didn’t fit the usual mold.

That’s exactly why we built Modern Care Collective. Here, healing means embracing your whole self — the light, the dark, the messy, and the real.

Our Story

Ashlee and Sara founded this practice after years of watching clients slip through the cracks of traditional outpatient therapy. Too often, people were told they were “too much,” “too complicated,” or didn’t fit into the mold of standard treatment.

Clients came in feeling dismissed, tossed around, or labeled — instead of understood. Many had layered identities, intense emotions, or complex histories that existing systems weren’t built to hold.

They knew there was a critical need for specialized, compassionate outpatient care — care that meets people exactly where they are and embraces their full experience. That’s why they built this collective: a team dedicated to providing therapy and group programs that are honest, inclusive, and deeply supportive.

OUR FOUNDERS

Sara Brenker, LCSW. Co-founder of Modern Care Collective

Let’s be real: a lot of clinicians in the outpatient world love the “easy” clients — the ones who check boxes, follow instructions, and come to sessions ready to go. But Sara? She’s not that therapist.

Sara chooses to work with the clients others shy away from — the ones who are complicated, messy, and require real buy-in. The ones who’ve been told they’re “too much,” “too broken,” or “too difficult.” Because she knows those are the people who need the most fierce, honest support — and who are capable of the most powerful transformation.

If you’re tired of being the “hard client,” tired of surface-level therapy that doesn’t stick, and ready for real, raw, and unapologetic growth, Sara’s the therapist who won’t give up on you.

Using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Sara helps you cut through the chaos — challenging toxic thought patterns, regulating overwhelming emotions, and rebuilding relationships that actually work. She holds space with compassion but won’t settle for anything less than your real commitment to change.

If you’re ready to stop being “the problem” and start owning your story with power and purpose, Sara will walk with you every step of the way.

Our Approach

Our approach refuses to settle for surface-level fixes or one-size-fits-all labels. You’re not a checklist or a diagnosis — you’re a whole person with a story that deserves to be heard and honored. Healing happens when you’re met with real empathy, solid respect, and zero judgment. No fluff, no pretending — just honest connection.

We don’t squeeze you into a mold. Instead, we build your treatment around your unique story, your strengths, and your goals.

Our team draws from a mix of evidence-based therapies to give you the tools you need to build resilience, find clarity, and reconnect with your true self, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Trauma-informed care

  • Mindfulness

  • Creative expressive therapies

This work is about real growth, real challenge, and reclaiming your life on your terms. If you’re ready to stop settling for less and start living authentically, this is the place to begin.

Our Services & Groups

We’re a team of like-minded professionals offering individual therapy, trauma counseling, and small-group programs.

Many specialized groups are only available in inpatient or residential treatment. We saw the gap and created programs for the outpatient level, where support is often needed most.

Our rotating groups explore real-world struggles, including:

  • Polyamorous and nontraditional relationships

  • Body image and self-acceptance

  • Chronic relapse and recovery support

  • LGBTQ+ mental health and identity exploration

  • Law enforcement officers navigating stress and trauma

  • Individuals who feel disconnected or unseen

Every group is intimate, professionally led, and built for connection and growth.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a directory of specialized, rotating groups that give people ongoing access to support that feels real, safe, and transformative.

This is not about “fixing” you. It’s about creating space for your full story — the parts you’ve been told are “too much” and the parts that no one has ever asked about.

who we welcome

Everyone is welcome here — even those who have been told they’re “too much,” “too complicated,” or “too difficult.”

We see:

  • The skeptical client who has tried therapy before and left disappointed

  • Teens craving honesty and connection

  • Outsiders who never felt like they fit in

  • People navigating chronic relapse who know recovery isn’t linear

  • Clients exploring gender, sexuality, or relationships outside the mainstream

When people feel stuck or like they’ve run out of options, they come to us. Because we offer fresh perspectives, creative solutions, and a team that refuses to give up.

An Invitation to Real Healing

If therapy has never felt like your place, consider this your invitation to something different — a community where you are seen, heard, and valued.

Real healing happens when you are free to be exactly who you are. And that’s exactly who we want to meet.

We’re just getting started.
